It’s the Beer Festival Weekend at Southwell Racecourse this weekend, in association with Navigation Brewery – Nottingham.
The meetings start coming thick and fast at Southwell from now, right through until the end of January with sixteen fixtures, with all bar one being Flat meetings.
The Beer Festival is the first of these on 13th and 14th of December. It wouldn’t be a festival without the beer itself, and Southwell has come together with the Navigation Brewery who will bring a range of different ales to suit every taste. The weekend of racing begins on Saturday with a good quality Flat card on the Fibresand for racegoers to enjoy, as well as entertainment after racing with a live band performing in the grandstand.
On Sunday is a seven race jumps card which last year featured the hurdles debut of Red Sherlock, who subsequently won a Grade 2 and was second favourite for the Neptune Investments Novice Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Entertainment of a different sporting kind will be provided by darts legend Bobby George, who will be taking on racegoers at a darts challenge in the grandstand, and also taking part in a charity raffle and auction after the sixth race. Just like Saturday, there will be live music after racing in the grandstand.
Racing continues through the next week with fixtures on 16th, 18th and 19th of December before the first of 4 festive fixtures on Saturday 27th December, before meetings on 29th December, the ever popular New Year’s Day meeting and January 2nd. Mark Clayton, General Manager commented “What better way to bring in the New Year and blow away the brussels!”
